What are some good tips for becoming more focused in studies?

Do this and you will never lose focus on studies
  • If you find it difficult to concentrate and get easily distracted
  • If you find it difficult to retain and quickly forget what you learnt and make silly mistakes in exams.
It means you are doing it the wrong way - reading mechanically without understanding and absorbing. When it comes to answering even the simplest questions you draw blank. This results in disappointment and loss of interest and focus.
How should one study
  • Read slowly absorbing the concept.
  • Read again and underline the key pointsMentally reproduce the topic.
  • Draw any diagram and label it in details. Understand the flow.
  • Write a summary of the topic on the margin of the page itself.
  • MOST IMPORTANT - Solve problems and answer questions - as many as you can. Answering the questions strengthens your weak spots. Keep doing it till you feel at home with it. Master it. Explain it to your class fellow. (Edit - even if imaginary)
  • Once you master a topic move on to the next topic. Repeat the above process.
  • Keep away from social networking sites. If you must, restrict their use to 10 minutes in a day. (Edit- In fact not more than a week. it is never urgent) Keep mobile on silent mode. Call back only the really urgent numbers.
  • KEEP REVISING - Revise every month. Mark key points and toughmaterial for revision. Such portions are likely to be forgotten soon and need frequent revision. Else you may panic when it is exam time.
  • During final revision time plan a Schedule for the entire course (Update- 2 months ahead) subject wise chapter wise. Allocate time forsolving previous years’ papers and then final revision.
    • Keep an evening free after every 3 days of concentrated study.(Edit- It recharges energy, increases efficiency, elevates mood. Keeps efficiency from dipping to dangerous levels. Don’t treat it as a time wasted)
    • Keep/allot more time for Technical subjects like Maths and science.
    • Do not study more than 7 hours on a full day. A typical study session should be something like this- 60 minutes study – 10 minutes break - 50 minutes study – 15 minutes break - 45 minutes study – one hour break. This is one session of 3 hours. Count breaks as part of study.
    • Have a second session, most probably after lunch.
    • After second session have a two hour evening break. Go out in green oxygen rich surroundings. Let your body soak in fresh air and sunlight. Do some jogging. It will send energizing chemicals soaring to brain.
  • Keep just one subject book on your study place. Keep your study area neat and tidy.
(Edit- In exam days don’t stay awake late before exam day. Attempt exam with fresh and fully rested mind. It is much more important than trying to catch up on revision)
I hope it helps.
ALL THE BEST TO YOU
